As an ability and team-based tactical shooter game, agents in Valorant play a hugely important part in taking home a victory. With 18 agents currently released, finding the right team makeup and character for you can be tricky. Factor in having to unlock the full cast, it’s obvious why getting involved with the game can be intimidating for some.
Have no fear, though, as with this simple guide, we’ll fill you in on everything you need to know to add the full roster to your arsenal.
How to Unlock New Valorant Agents
When playing Valorant for the first time, you’ll notice that you already have five agents unlocked. These are Brimstone, Jett, Phoenix, Sage, and Sova. For the rest of the agents, you have three methods that can be used to add your desired characters to your account.
Method One: Levelling Up
As you play Valorant, your account will level up and gain experience. Levelling up results in various rewards, the most important of which are the character unlock tokens gained at levels five and ten. After these points, players can go to the collection tab and use their tokens to unlock the one or two agents they choose. Of course, this still leaves 11 agents to go…
Method Two: Contracts
For the rest of the agents, completing contracts is the only way to unlock without paying. These are accessible after reaching level five. To start a contract, simply select the agent you want on the agents screen, and then hit the “activate” button to begin. Once activated, players will earn XP directly towards the agents they want. This XP can be earned in any game mode.
Method Three: Microtransactions
For those who don’t want to wait or grind, characters can also be unlocked with the Valorant premium currency, VALORANT Points (VP). Each character costs 1000 VP and can be unlocked on the agents screen.
Which Valorant Agents Should You Unlock?
Now you know how to unlock agents in Valorant, you need to know which Agent is right for you. This is a more difficult question to answer, as it ultimately depends on your play-style, and what type of role you excel at.
Chances are this isn’t your first shooter rodeo, so you should at least have some idea of what you’re interested in and where your strengths lie. Once you’ve settled on a direction, have a look at the agents page in-game or on the official website to see which abilities gel with your weapons of choice. Snipers, for example, might want to try Omen or Sage, whereas Astra could be a safer bet for a player who enjoys crowd control.
If you’re new or unsure, then it’s up to you to find out. Experiment with the classes you already have, and then choose new agents similar to the one you like best, or just choose one you think looks cool!
